Trail Conditions

April 2, 2008 - Well, that’s it for the season, folks.  This year you had to ride as soon as the snow hit the ground because 3 days later, it was gone.  Better luck next season!  All of our trail signs have been removed.  There is still (as always) trail work to be done before next season.  Several bridges need help, some brush trimming, gate(s), etc.  We will publish the list here so that the ambitious amoung us could work independently if so inclined.  If you do manage to accomplish anything on the list, please let me know so that it can be duly noted.  Next season, we hope to have officially opened a trail to Spartansburg, with signs & everything!  Please check the news letter page(s) for updates & news.  Have a good summer!   —- Chuck

March 21 - Trails are closed, working on getting signs down. If you would like to help on trails call Frank Martin or Chuck Thompson. If you have any concerns on trails please let us know, hopefully next season will be better. Thanks

March 3 - Trails are closed. Unusually warm weather has ruined are trails, more snow expected thru the end of the week. Getting late in the year please ride when there’s enough snow on trails. Thanks Jon

Feb 28 - Conditions excellent on trails.  Extensive grooming since Tuesday night (2-26).  Grooming to continue tonight.  Dirt road conditions fair to poor as usual.  COME TO THE VFW FOR BREAKFAST SUNDAY 3-2-08, RIDE IN 8AM to 11AM - BENEFITS OUR CLUB!!!!!

Feb 27 - Conditions good as of now.  Grooming last night from Corry to Clymer; conditions good.  Conditions Corry to Wattsburg are excellent.  Columbus to Bear Lake is good but needs groomed.  Any roads are poor with little ice / snow on top of the road surface. Please ride safely…  Chuck

Feb 26 - SNOW!!!!  Well, it’s coming down now… The snow is not heavy, but not just dust like last time.  There is some substance to it & we’re forecast to get maybe 8″.  This is enough to open trails again, but conditions aren’t “great” only ”fair”.  Please be careful & again - RESPECT LANDOWNERS - if you aren’t sure that there’s enough snow, then there is not.  Remember, an upset landowner may close a trail, permanently….. thanks! Chuck…

Feb 25 - Mother Nature must not be happy with snowmobilers…  We have had warm enough weather coupled with not enough snow base & the results are  - no riding.  While there are some areas that have barely enough snow (Carter Hill), other areas have no snow at all.  So at this time, the trails are again closed until we get some snow.  One of these times, I would like to post an update that says “conditions are wonderful…”.  We’ll keep you posted….   Chuck

Feb 19 - Its snowing!  The snow is light & fluffy & there MAY be enough to ride on, in some places.  Please use good judgement and stay off of the areas where there is not enough snow cover.  There are some ‘wash outs’ from the weekend so watch for ditches too….  We’ll update as conditions change.  Thanks…Chuck

Feb 18 - Trails closed again.  We had 42+ degree weather and rain on Sunday and continuing into early this morning.  Not enough base to support that warm up & rain.  Think SNOW & we’ll keep you posted if conditions change…  Chuck

Feb 12 - Trails open again, finally.  We are getting some snow and very cold temps.  Snow depth as of today is marginal for riding - max is about 6″ - BUT - we’re getting more snow from this widespread storm & conditions are improving.  HOPEFULLY we’ll get 6-8″ more from this storm.  We did lose all of the snow with the warm up, so there is no base as of yet.  Please be careful with no base as ground obstacles will hurt (frozen dirt clods are tough to tell from rock!).   We have re-opened the “low trail” from Wal-Mart to Columbus - the “hill trail” was just too steep for many operators.  We’ll update again as conditions change…..  Chuck

Jan 29 - Sorry to say, we had a warm up & rain.  There was not enough base to make it through this weather.  Especially the Corry - Columbus - Bear Lake areas, where most of the trails are now only dirt.  Up on ‘the hill’ west of Corry, there is still some base left.  HOWEVER, our trails are officially closed, pending more snow.  We’ll keep you posted as conditions change.  Thanks, Chuck.

Jan 24 - Rode last night not a lot of base in the Corry, Columbus, Bear Lake area, trails are covered, hardly any water on the trails. Trail conditions north and west have more snow, we are getting more snow today should be good riding this weekend. Should be grooming soon. We are serving Breakfast at the VFW in Corry Sunday the 27th 8:00 to 11:00 am. $5.00 . CAUTION ON TRAIL - The hill off Spencer road is icey & there is a big tree limb down on the North Hills golf course 1/4 mile from Sciota Inn, watch for groomers. Careful riding have fun :) Jon

Jan 20 - We FIANLLY have some snow & cold temps.  Conditions are variable - more snow (8″ to 12″) from Corry to Wattsburg - a little less around Columbus and towards Bear Lake.  There have been a moderate amount of sleds out, packing down what is there.  There are a few muddy spots, but with the forecast temperatures, these will hopefully freeze up.  Our groomer operators are eager to go; we still need a few more inches to make it possible to groom effectively.  Please be careful & stay on the trails……Chuck

Jan 14 - Come on, everyone, THINK SNOW!  We’re getting some snow now, not enough to ride on yet.  The FORECAST is getting better though, with highs in the mid teens late in the week.  We’ll update this as soon as there is a significant change.  Jon, Bill M. & myself worked about 4 hours on Sunday 1-13 clearing downed limbs from Corry to Clymer and put up a few more signs.  On the bright side, PA state game lands trails will be open Wednesday.  Once again, please respect our landowners; don’t ride if there’s not enough SNOW!!!!   Thanks!  Chuck.

Jan. 6 - This is depressing…. :^(   The temp got up to about 45 today.  What little base that we had is now gone.  The forecast is for warm temps through at least next Saturday 1-12.   THINK SNOW!!!!   ….  Chuck

January 4 - Have gotten about a foot of snow on the ground packed to about 2 to 3 inches on trails not much base ok for riding while it’s cold suppose to warm up and rain.  Remember, PA game lands trails are closed until 1-15-08.  Please respect landowners, don’t ride if there’s not enough snow!!!!  Be careful…

December 23 - TRAILS ARE CLOSED : Trails were marked in the Columbus area, the far end of Carter Hill still needs to be marked and a few areas around Corry & possibly a trail to Spartansburg. Wait for snow :)

December 18 - Trails are now open but still very wet (muddy)in some areas.  Unpacked snow depth ranges from  8″ to 2′.  Snow on trail surfaces is packed, but squashed down to 2″ to 6″.  We are not grooming trails yet & don’t expect to for a couple of more weeks (based on the current weather forecast).  There are still no signs up around the Columbus area and from Carter Heights GC to Wattsburg.  These will be put up this coming weekend (12-22 & 23).  REMEMBER, NY STATE TRAILS ARE NOT OPEN UNTIL THURSDAY (12-20).  IT’S A $300 FINE !!!  Please stay on marked trails!  THANKS!     Chuck

December 16th we are currently getting snow now probably enough to ride, BE CAREFUL !!!! some ditches will be open and water on the trail, all signs are not up yet go slow. Some trails have been changed keep an eye out all signs aren’t up, be patient!! any questions please call or email.

December 16; trail work is progressing.  We have put in several new bridges and signs are about half way done.  We still have to put signs up in the Columbus area and the Carter Hill area past Carter Heights Golf Course.  We still need a couple of bridges on Carter Hill as well.  Our next work bee is on Saturday 12/22 at 1:00 & Sunday 12-23 at 9am.  Meet at the storage units by Subway, this should finish it up.  THANKS!  Chuck
